Update on the Revision Process 

October 31, 2011 -- Work continues on the revised K-12 social studies standards. This includes reducing the number of social studies benchmarks, making the standards clear and concise, adding examples where needed, and focusing on the most essential content and skills in each of the five social studies disciplines. 

 

We hope to have the revised standards completed soon. The newly revised standards will be posted on the Minnesota Department of Education website. If you would like to be contacted when the standards are released, please register with the Center for Social Studies Education above. Registration is free and the CSSE will send an e-notice to everyone in their network as soon as the standards are posted on the Minnesota Department of Education website.

 

In the meantime, many schools have expressed interest in seeing an overview of the draft standards, especially at the middle school level. This information is provided in this document. While the draft is still a work in progress, it is expected that this “overview” information will not change.

 

The Social Studies Standards Committee and the Minnesota Department of Education thank you for your patience while the standards proceed through the final stages of development. Your support of high quality social studies standards is very much appreciated.
